Why Use the Best 3D Printers?
When it comes to 3D printing, the printer you use matters.
Have you ever received a crown that fits on the model, but not in the patient’s mouth? It isn’t necessarily because of a bad scan or impression. One cause could be the 3D printer used to printer the master model. You might be thinking, “why do you need a printed model if you have a scanner?” Even with the advent of model-less cases, long-span bridges, inlays/onlays, PFMs, Layered Emax, and Layered Zirconia crowns will always require models. Models are required with these types of cases as they are fabricated and hand-fit by a trained technician and therefore, it is crucial that the 3D model is representative of the patient’s dentition.
Taking a perfect scan or impression is hard enough. However, introducing another source of error, a low-end printer, and combining it with the variability of scan accuracy, may lead to a larger refabrication rate.
At Paramount, we do most of our cases model-less but for cases that need printed models, we use top-of-the-line Carbon printers. Today, we are one of the first dental laboratories to upgrade our Carbon printers from the M2 version to the M3, which is more accurate and precise. With this latest advancement, model errors are practically eliminated.
