Scanning Tips: Color vs. Monochrome View

A simple switch could make all the difference between a crown that drops in and a remake. In the first video, Dr. Stanley talks about this little-known but extremely powerful tool on your scanner. The second video shows an example of a margin that looks fine in color, but in monochrome, is noticeably distorted from blood or saliva.

If you want to see what your lab tech sees when designing your case, switch from color to monochrome before you send the case. Techs use the monochrome view because it has much better definition and contrast, enabling one to see tissue/liquid over the margin or any type of scan distortion.
